KLANG Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak assured Indians that the government would not take them for granted.
He did not deny that Barisan Nasional might have made mistakes in the past.
But, he said, BN had learnt from them.
"We will continue to work hard to obtain the support (of all, including Indians)," he said at the Dee-pavali national open house at SMK Kampung Jawa here last night.
Accompanied by his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Najib said the government was able to settle many issues concerning Indians, ranging from citizenship documentation to education.
"So, I don't see why Indians will not continue to support us."
He called on Indians to throw their support behind BN, especially MIC, and its leaders.
Najib was upbeat to see the huge open house crowd, comprising 24,000 Malaysians and foreigners.
Present were Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim, MIC president Datuk G. Palanivel and ministers.
The crowd had gathered as early as 5pm to enjoy the food and be entertained with dances and songs by artistes such as Jamal Abdillah, Shruti, Jimmy Palikat and Lee Cheng Wen.
Earlier, Najib and Rosmah visited M. Chanderan, 37, who lost both his legs, at his home here.
Chanderan had a big smile when Najib greeted him.
The father of five received a 1Malaysia Netbook, rice, sugar, coffee, cooking oil, cash and savings certificates for his school-going children.
