92 MIC reps on 68 private hospital boards, says Palanivel - The Star

Tuesday Dec 6, 2011

KUALA LUMPUR: MIC representatives have been appointed to the visitors’ boards of 68 private hospitals in the country.

MIC president Datuk G. Palanivel said the Health Ministry had accommodated the party’s request for 92 representatives on the boards.

“This is the first time that such boards had been set up in private hospitals although government hospitals and clinics already have them,” he said.

The 68 boards have a total of 585 members.

“We gave the names to Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and their appointment is for a three-year period from August this year,” he said.

Palanivel hoped the appointees would work hard.

“With this, the Indian community can play a pro-active role in the running of private hospitals,” he added.

Palanivel hoped the hospitals would call for regular meetings with members of the visitors’ board so they could be informed of developments.

“The members will act as a liaison between the hospitals and the public in aspects like welfare programmes and patients feedback,” he said.
